WATCH: Bryant puts Cubs on scoreboard with ingenious base running

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant receives widespread acclaim for his stellar hitting ability, but his base-running prowess is rather underrated. Bryant showcased just how dangerous he can be on the basepaths when he scored the first run of the Cubs' matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday.

On a routine grounder, Bryant was able to advance from second to home to put the Cubs up 1-0 in the first inning. Of course, Bryant does not boast remarkable speed. Rather, heads-up base running is what allowed him to take advantage of Phillies shortstop Jean Segura on the scoring play.

After fielding the 1-out grounder, Segura took his eyes off Bryant and lofted a throw to first base for the force out. Bryant took off for home while Segura was casually making the throw and slid in ahead of first baseman Rhys Hoskins' throw to the plate, likely leaving Segura dumbfounded.
