CHICAGO — One day after setting a new franchise record for the most home runs hit in a single season, the Chicago Cubs broke another franchise record on Sunday. A seventh-inning 2-run home run by left fielder Kyle Schwarber marked the 46th run of the Cubs' 3-game series versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The 46 runs over the course of a 3-game set is the highest such total in Cubs history during the modern era, which dates back to 1900. Schwarber's 36th dinger of the season carried 384 feet out to left-center at Wrigley Field, scoring right fielder Nicholas Castellanos and putting the Cubs up 15-6.
