WATCH: More great base running by Bryant ties game in ninth

by - Senior Writer -

In the opening inning of the Chicago Cubs-Philadelphia Phillies matchup at Wrigley Field on Tuesday, Cubs slugger Kris Bryant put his club ahead 1-0 with some rather adept base running. Hustling from second to home on nothing more than a routine grounder to short, Bryant judged the throw to first by Phillies shortstop Jean Segura perfectly and slid in safely ahead of the throw home by Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins.

Eight innings later, Bryant came up clutch with more solid base running, as he tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth by motoring down the third-base line on a nubber off the bat of Cubs outfielder Albert Almora Jr. and sliding across the plate before Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto could apply the tag. Phillies pitcher Juan Nicasio quickly fielded the baseball after it was hit, but Bryant's fast reaction after Almora made contact enabled him to cross the plate safely.
