WATCH: Schwarber crushes go-ahead grand slam vs. Cardinals

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber hit a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning against the Cardinals to put the Cubs up 5-3.

It was an epic blast to centerfield from the first pitch from starter Mike Leake, and it resulted in Schwarber's first career grand slam of his major league career. Schwarber watched the homer for a few seconds out of the batter's box to watch the ball sail into the stands. It is easy to second guess Mike Matheny after not taking out Leake after almost 100 pitches, but it was obviously the wrong play in that situation.

Schwarber received a curtain call from the screaming fans after the estimated 403 feet home run that had a 107 MPH exit velocity. This grand slam could get Schwarber out of his season-long funk and could be the turning point of the season offensively for the Cubs. A powerful bat with Schwarber makes the Cubs lineup entirely different like spark plug Dexter Fowler last season.

Check out Schwarber's grand slam below.

Here are two views from the stands in the following video.

CubsHQ Twitter account was very excited about the grand slam.
