Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras is one tough cookie.
During the sixth inning of Friday's loss against the Dodgers, Contreras was nailed by reliever Joe Kelly on a 98-mph fastball on his left hand. Contreras talked to the trainers for a few moments and miraculously stayed in the ballgame. Cubs manager David Ross spoke to the media following the game and hopes that everything will check out OK with Contreras' hand moving forward as there will probably be some swelling. “That was a scary moment,” he said. “We’ll see how it presents here afterward, and have the trainers check it out again. The good sign is he got through the game and was still able to compete at a high level.” The current backup catcher for the Cubs is Jose Lobaton. Willson Contreras took this 98-mph pitch to the hand.
