Cubs Corner Podcast: Nico Hoerner demotion, Rizzo's extension talks, Predictions, more

On this edition of the Cubs Corner, presented by Coach’s Bar and Grill, Anthony welcomed The Scorecrow’s Joey Ricotta to talk Cubs before the season begins on Thursday.

As always, this episode is presented by Coach’s Bar and Grill, located at 6169 N Northwest Highway on the Northwest Side of Chicago. The food and ownership are both great so make sure you get to Coach’s!

This edition of the Cubs Corner started by analyzing the Cubs’ decision to start Nico Hoerner at the alternate training site to begin the season in 2021. Anthony and Joey voiced their disagreement with the decision, especially since Hoerner has an OPS north of 1.000 this Spring.

The move seemed to be mostly due because of service time, not a great look for an organization that got exposed for manipulating service time in 2015 with Kris Bryant — at the very least, it leaves a sour taste in the mouths of Cubs fans.

To make matters worse, the Cubs offered an embarrassing extension offer to Anthony Rizzo — provoking Rizzo to stop extension talks for now.

The pair chatted about how bad this makes the Cubs look and discussed the ramifications of letting the Modern-Day Mr. Cub walk after all he has done for this team and the city during his tenure.

Then the two talked about how the second base battle shakes out without Hoerner in the picture. After that, they analyze the starting rotation and the way the bullpen shakes out.

The episode ended with a prediction on whether or not the Cubs win the division in 2021 — tune into the episode for more:
