Cubs Corner Podcast with David Kaplan

Cubs Corner Podcast with David Kaplan

by - Staff Writer -

On the latest edition of the Cubs Corner, Anthony welcomed ESPN 1000’s David Kaplan on the show to talk all things Cubs.

The pair began the discussion talking about Marcus Stroman, who has emerged as the Cubs stopper amidst their recent struggles — punctuated by his complete game shutout of the Rays on Memorial Day.

Bullpen has been this club’s clear weakness, and Kap and Anthony discussed how they would handle high-leverage innings with the bullpen as currently constructed, assuming they were fully rested. Mark Leiter Jr. and Adbert Alzolay were names that frequently arose in the conversation.

The two also discussed how embarrassing the last month has been for the Cubs and how their record sits near the bottom of the league despite having three starters below 3.45 ERA, Swanson, Hoerner, and Happ having solid seasons, the offense owning the 2nd best team OBP and Cody Bellinger is looking like his old self (before injury).

The pair also discussed prospects, the upcoming trade deadline, and which side of the coin the Cubs may be on.

That and more on this edition of the Cubs Corner available on Soundcloud, Apple Podcasts, and the CubsHQ Website.
