Cubs make several roster moves

MESA – The Chicago Cubs have assigned nine players to minor league camp, reducing their spring roster from 47 to 38 players.

Right-handed pitcher James Norwood and left-handed pitchers Kyle Ryan and Justin Steele have been optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Left-handed pitcher Brailyn Márquez has been optioned to Double-A Tennessee.

Five non-roster invitees have been assigned to minor league camp: right-handed pitcher Joe Biagini, catcher Jose Lobaton and outfielders Michael Hermosillo, Nick Martini and Ian Miller.

Chicago’s spring roster of 38 players consists of 21 pitchers (which includes five non-roster invitees), three catchers (one non-roster invitee), eight infielders (two non-roster invitees) and six outfielders (two non-roster invitees).
