MILWAUKEE -- Dexter Fowler started the game with a home run and the Cubs never looked back as they were able to score 4 more times in the game. Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Miguel Montero all also had hits in the game that led to a Cubs victory with a score of 5-2.

The Cubs played game 1 of 3 against the Milwaukee Brewers Friday evening. The Cubs were 5-2 before the game which is an improvement of their 1-9 in 10 contests before the All Star Break. It was the return of Dexter Fowler as he made himself known by hitting a home run to lead off the game putting the Cubs ahead 1-0 in the first. It was Fowler’s first time batting at this league in over a month.

The Brewers started the second inning with another error as Russell was able to advance to second on a bad throw to first by the Brewers pitcher. Miguel Montero walked, and then Jason Hammel laid down a beautiful bunt that had the Brewers confused on what to do. The bases were loaded with no outs as Dexter Fowler came up to bat again. Fowler doubled to left which scored Russell and Montero, putting the Cubs ahead 3-0. Fowler was able to score on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Rizzo, as the Cubs led 4 to nothing going into the third.

Ryan Braun gave the Brewers a run in the 4th, but they still trailed 4-1 going into the 5th. The Brewers added another run in the 5th to make the score 4-2, but they still trailed. Jason Hammel pitched 5 innings and allowed 4 hits and walked two. He had four strikeouts on the day.

Miguel Montero knocked in a run in the 8th to give the Cubs a bigger lead of 5-2. Hector Rondon was able to get the save as the Cubs take the 5-2 victory to get the win.

The Cubs will continue play against the Brewers tomorrow as John Lackey will face Zach Davies on the pitcher’s mound.
