There’s some stirring going on in the baseball world in preparation for 2018, but Theo Epstein appears to be biding his time.

While there are still 153 days left until the 2019 season kicks off for the Cubs, a good portion of the other MLB teams have started making roster moves, leaving many to wonder just what (or whom) Epstein is waiting for.

Although the upper echelon of the free agent season won’t start moving for another couple of weeks, teams are able to trade and sign minor league free agents to contracts now, and many have begun doing so.

I’ve skipped over the American League, but for the fans who follow every team’s moves, here’s what the Cubs’ and their National League competition have accomplished so far, in October.

Chicago Cubs: No transactions.

Arizona D-Backs: Signed FA-RHP J. Gonzalez to a minor league contract and claimed RHP Artie Lewicki off waivers from the Tigers.

Signed FA OF Victor Mesa Jr. and OF Victor Victor Mesa (no typo there) to minor league contracts.

Milwaukee Brewers: Signed five, FA RHP to minor league contracts (Y. Perez, E. Jimenez, R. Rojas, R. Camacho and W. Chorio), and signed FA C Henry Leon to minor league contract.

Pittsburgh Pirates: Outrighted LHP Nik Turley to the Indianapolis Indians.

San Diego Padres: Outrighted LHP Jose Torres to the San Antonio Missions.

San Francisco Giants: Outrighted RHP Tyler Herb, 2B Miguel Gomez, 3B Chase d’Arnaud. SS Kelby Tomlinson and RHP Casey Kelly to the Sacramento River Cats.
