Roster Move: Cubs place Jake Marisnick on 10-day IL, recall reliever

CLEVELAND – The Chicago Cubs today placed outfielder Jake Marisnick on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to May 10) with a right hamstring strain. Left-handed pitcher Brad Wieck has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa.

Wieck, 29, begins his second stint with the club this season as he was recalled, April 12, and threw a scoreless inning of relief that evening in Milwaukee, before he was optioned, April 14.

Wieck made the 2020 Cubs Opening Day roster but appeared in just one game before being placed on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain that sidelined him for the rest of the season. In 2019, he pitched in a career-high 44 major league games between the Padres and Cubs, going 2-1 with a 3.60 ERA (4 ER/10.0 IP) in 14 games with Chicago.

Wieck was acquired by the Cubs at the 2019 trade deadline for pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. and international bonus money. In 51 career major league relief appearances for the Padres (2018-19) and Cubs (2019-21), Wieck is 2-2 with a 5.15 ERA (25 ER/43.2 IP) with 15 walks and 63 strikeouts.

Marisnick, 30, is hitting .264 (14-for-53) with three doubles, two triples, four home runs and 14 RBI in 27 games for Chicago. He signed a one-year major league deal with a mutual option for 2022 this past February.
