Cubs News: Adbert Alzolay leaves game due to injury

by - Senior Writer -

SAN DIEGO — Chicago Cubs right-hander Adbert Alzolay struggled in his start on Monday, never seeming to have great command through his three innings on the mound. Despite striking out four, Alzolay gave up four runs on five hits and five walks, and the leadoff walk he issued in the bottom of the fourth ended his outing. At the time, the Cubs trailed the San Diego Padres 4-3 at Petco Park.

A trainer came out to evaluate Alzolay, who was visibly uncomfortable, and manager David Ross did not hesitate to relieve the 26-year-old.

Rex Brothers came in to pitch, and a frustrated Alzolay headed to the clubhouse. Alzolay has previously struggled with blisters this season, but there is no certainty as to what ailment he suffered on Monday.

UPDATE: The Cubs later announced that Alzolay was pulled because of a blister on his right middle finger.
