Cubs News: Anthony Rizzo dedicates game to young girl who passed away after cancer battle

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo is a cancer survivor, and, ever since his fight with his cancer, Rizzo has worked closely with cancer patients to help them along in their fights. Rizzo proudly runs a charity, the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, that raises money that supports cancer research, as well as cancer patients and their families.

Naturally, Rizzo has grown close with many of the cancer patients whom he has gotten to know through his charitable efforts, and, sadly, one young friend of Rizzo's passed away recently and was laid to rest on Tuesday. On Tuesday afternoon, Rizzo sent out a heartfelt tweet about Juliana, who was affectionately known as "JuJu," and her valiant fight.

Along with a photo of Juliana, Rizzo included an image of a butterfly that the little girl drew for him in his tweet. In honor of Juliana and all that she meant to him, Rizzo dedicated the Cubs' game against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday to her memory, stating that he would step on the field in honor of Juliana. The touching gesture is emblematic of all that Rizzo represents as a person and as a humanitarian, and "Big Rizz" is certain to play his heart out for Juliana as he honors her life on Tuesday night.
