Cubs News: Ben Zobrist's playing update |
Chicago Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer was on the
McNeil & Parkins Show on Thursday to talk about various subjects including the possible return of veteran second baseman
Ben Zobrist.
"We've been in contact with Ben," Hoyer said. "He's been in contact with his teammates. So he's obviously working through his family stuff. We're giving him his privacy. Certainly, as an organization, we're hopeful that we'll see him in a Cubs uniform again. Hoyer believes that Zobrist will be ready to play if he comes back this season. "We know that given his professionalism that when he does come back, he'll get himself in great shape and he'll be ready to play. That's kind of how we see it now, and we'll keep talking to him. But that's certainly the expectation today." Hoyer had no update on a timetable for Zo's return to the ballclub. "It's difficult for us," Hoyer said. "We're obviously very sensitive to Ben and his family and don't want to comment a lot." Theo said "there's been a little more definition" on the Ben Zobrist front. Still no timetable, but there have been discussions about what a return-to-play schedule could look like later this season. Zobrist still putting family situation first. Zobrist is batting .241 with 10 RBI in 26 games this season. CubsHQ would like to wish Ben and his family the best as they deal with this very stressful time in their lives.
