Brewers officially announce signing of Kolten Wong |
The Milwaukee Brewers announced on Friday the signing of veteran second baseman Kolten Wong.
The deal was for a two-year contract with a club option for 2023. “We’re thrilled to welcome Kolten to Milwaukee,” said President of Baseball Operations David Stearns in a statement. “Kolten’s skillset adds to our club in a variety of ways. He has established himself as one of the best defenders in all of baseball. He also offers a well-balanced offensive approach that will serve as an additional on-base presence to our lineup.” Wong hit .265 with a homer and 16 RBIs in 53 games last season. During his MLB career, the 30-year-old is a .261 hitter with 53 homers, 281 RBI, and 88 stolen bases across 8 seasons. He also won two Gold Glove Awards and has been to the postseason five teams, including the last two seasons. At one point, the Cubs had reported interest in Wong as a short-term answer at second base while Nico Hoerner got more experience. However, the Cubs smartly decided against giving Wong a long-term deal that would have hurt the progress with Hoerner getting reps.
