Cubs announce upcoming minor-league stops for Ben Zobrist

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — On Tuesday, the Chicago Cubs announced the latest plans involving veteran utility man Ben Zobrist, who is currently working his way back to the Cubs through a lengthy minor-league stint. Recently, Zobrist has been playing for the Triple-A Iowa Cubs, but his next stop will be more like a pitstop in Double-A ball.

The Cubs revealed to the press that Zobrist, who has not suited up for the Cubs since May 7, would be playing for the Double-A Tennessee Smokies on Thursday before immediately rejoining Iowa for a couple of Triple-A games on Friday and Saturday. Earlier this month, Zobrist played for the South Bend Cubs and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, both of which are Single-A clubs.

There is no word at this time as to what the plan of action for Zobrist will be after he plays in Iowa's game on Saturday. It is worth noting that the Cubs will still have one week remaining before the Aug. 31 ultimatum regarding whether or not Zobrist will be removed from the restricted list and thus become postseason eligible.
