Cubs applying to host 2021 All-Star game

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs will have their renovations done at Wrigley Field by the spring of 2020.

That timeline will work out perfectly as they are trying to host the 2021 All-Star game. The Cubs have not hosted an All-Star game since 1990.

President of Business Operations Crane Kenney spoke to reporters about the process of trying to get the All-Star game back at Wrigley.

"We will be back in front of MLB applying this year," he said via 670 The Score. "The game has already committed for the next couple of years. This will be a joint process for us. We want the game, but you have to earn it from the commissioner and MLB. This is such a big economic driver for all the cities. The city has to come and make a pitch as to why we deserve it in Chicago. The last time, our city was not strong enough. We will need to find out who the next mayor is. This will be a huge economic driver for a city that gets it."

Kenney also shared that there will be some new changes at Wrigley next season with additional seating along with new restaurants and additional bathrooms in the upper deck, better wi-fi throughout the stadium, and paperless ticketing through the use of an app.
