Cubs place Victor Caratini on 10-day IL, recall catcher

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today placed catcher Victor Caratini on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left hamate and recalled catcher Taylor Davis from Triple-A Iowa. Davis will be available for the Cubs this afternoon when they begin their three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels at Wrigley Field.
Davis, 29, has played parts of the last two seasons in the big leagues with the Cubs, batting .278 (5-for-18) with one double and three RBI in 13 games. He batted .275 (98-for-356) with 18 doubles, four homers and 41 RBI in 107 games with Iowa last season, playing 67 games at catcher, 24 games at first base and 12 games at third base. Davis went 2-for-5 (.400) with two RBI in five games with the Cubs last year after making his big league debut in 2017, batting .231 (3-for-13) with one double and one RBI in eight games.
The right-handed batter has gone 2-for-14 (.143) with one homer and two RBI in four games with Iowa this season. Davis was originally signed by the Cubs as a minor league free agent on July 11, 2011.
Caratini, 25, is batting .545 (6-for-11) with one double, one homer and four RBI in five games with the Cubs this season. He has spent parts of the last three seasons in the majors with the Cubs, hitting .251 (63-for-251) with 11 doubles, four homers and 27 RBI in 112 games.
