Cubs projected arbitration salaries

by - Senior Editor -

It's the offseason currently for the Chicago Cubs which means time to discuss the roster in 2019.

Several Cubs players will be eligible for arbitration and the experts at MLB Trade Rumors have projected some interesting salary numbers.

Kris Bryant – $12.4 million

Kyle Hendricks – $7.6 million

Javier Baez – $7.1 million

Addison Russell – $4.3 million

Kyle Schwarber – $3.1 million

Mike Montgomery – $3.0 million

Carl Edwards Jr. – $1.4 million

Tommy La Stella -- $1.2 million

Obviously, most of these numbers seem about right with modest increases for each player. However, these are just projections and the salaries might be off a few 100K per player when they actually do sign on the dotted line in a few short months.

Russell's projection is interesting because the Cubs will more than likely try to trade him before they deal with him in arbitration or non-tender him. The rest of the arbitration-eligible players will more than likely be tendered an offer by the Cubs.

Another interesting note is this is Baez's first year in arbitration and he had an MVP-like season so he is headed to a big payday for next season and beyond.

This is also time for the Cubs management to see if they can lock up any of their cornerstone players with a long-term extension as they did with Rizzo a few years ago. It's very difficult to get done but if anyone can do it, Theo Epstein is the man for the job.
