Cubs release MRI results of Cole Hamels' injury |
CHICAGO — The MRI results for Chicago Cubs starting pitcher
Cole Hamels were made public on Tuesday afternoon, and the prognosis promising. Hamels was initially diagnosed with a strained left oblique, and the MRI indicated as much. The veteran left-hander will continue with treatment and is expected to undergo rehab following the All-Star break.
Hamels left his start last Friday after just one inning pitched, as he felt tightness in his left side during the course of the opening frame and decided to pull himself from the game after continuing to feel the tightness during his warmup session prior to the second inning. As a result, the Cubs placed Hamels on the 10-day injured list and essentially ruled out any possibility of him pitching prior to the All-Star break. While an oblique strain is far less discouraging than an oblique tear, Hamels could still miss several weeks due to the injury. As of now, there is no official timetable for Hamels' anticipated return.
