Not great news for a struggling bullpen.

Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell told the media Wednesday that right-handed reliever Yency Almonte "didn't receive great news" after a doctor's opinion on his right shoulder strain.

Almonte is currently shut down and is contemplating whether to undergo surgery.

“Right now, he's just thinking about what to do here,” Counsell said. “He's going to have to stop throwing and take some more rest and then make a decision as to what's next.”

Almonte went on the IL on May 11.

This season, he has posted a 3.45 ERA in 17 appearances for the Cubs.
