Cubs reportedly signing lefty

The Chicago Cubs will be bringing back lefty Rex Brothers on a minor league deal, according to Baseball America.

Brothers only pitched 3.1 innings in 2020 (-0.1 WAR), registering 8 strikeouts of 15 batters for an 8.10 ERA.

The 33-year-old will certainly give the organization some depth regarding lefties with Kyle Ryan, Brad Wieck, and Adam Morgan on the roster trying to win jobs out of Spring training.

If Brothers doesn't win a job out of spring training, he certainly will be used going up and down from the minors to the big-league club when needed by a tired bullpen.

He has a 20-14 record for his MLB career (4.6 WAR) with a 3.84 ERA, 319 strikeouts, and 1.496 WHIP in 269.1 total innings.

The Rockies drafted him with the 34th overall pick in the 2009 amateur draft.
