Cubs sign former Phillies reliever |
The Chicago Cubs continue to add arms to bolster their bullpen depth for the 2021 season.
The Cubs have signed former Phillies reliever Trevor Kelley to a minor-league deal according to the Cubs transactions page. The sidearm thrower pitched only 3.1 innings for a 10.80 ERA last season with the Phillies. In 2019, he pitched 8.1 innings with the Red Sox and has mostly been in their minor league organization (2014-2019). The Cubs are probably interested in him because in the minors in 2019, he had an impressive 1.79 ERA in 65.1 innings. If he can pitch anywhere close to that, he is a hidden gem signing. More than likely, he will be a training camp invite and the team will see how he looks. Hopefully, he puts it all together and he gives them more organizational depth next season.
