Cubs win first-ever National League Team Gold Glove Award |
More gold tonight for the Northsiders.
The Chicago Cubs are the first-ever winner of the National League Team Glove Glove Award, announced by MLB Network on Thursday night. The team finished first in the major leagues with a team SDI (SABR defensive index) of 21.9 which combines several defensive metrics into a single rating. The Northsiders were loaded with defensive praise after the season with Javy Baez and Anthony Rizzo winning the prestigious 2020 Gold Gloves Awards while teammates Willson Contreras, Nico Hoerner, Jason Heyward, Kyle Hendricks, and Alec Mills were named as finalists. Ideally, the Cubs would have loved to have gone much farther in postseason play but at least it appeared that they were well-coached and played excellent defense on the field as it showed to a first-place finish in the National League Central Division. Hopefully, they can carry this solid defensive mentality into next season and beyond.
