Cubs News: Daniel Descalso injury update

by - Senior Writer -

Taking on his former team, Chicago Cubs second baseman Daniel Descalso started off the Cubs' matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals with a bang. In the Cubs' first at-bat of the afternoon, Descalso hit a leadoff single to center field that got by Cardinals center fielder Dexter Fowler. The error allowed Descalso to reach third base for an auspicious beginning to the bottom of the first inning for the North Siders.

However, Descalso, who was scored in the inning to put the Cubs ahead 1-0, was forced to take the good with the bad, as he injured his left ankle while hurrying around first base after Fowler bungled the play in the outfield. Evidently, the pain did not subside, and Descalso was pulled from the contest prior to the start of the fifth inning. Soon afterward, the Cubs announced that Descalso was taken out of the game due to left ankle soreness. The former Cardinal went 1-for-2 on the day.
