Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner has the ability to be a sparkplug for the Northsiders in 2020.

His manager David Ross spoke to the media Friday and said that he is impressed by his intelligence and his love of the game.

"I think with Nico, I'm impressed with his baseball IQ first and foremost, in his ability to, you know, love the game," he said. "He's just a baseball player. He loves the game so much. I asked him to play center he's all for it, it tells me he can't wait. You know, took some balls at third the other day in case we had to move some things around. No problems there. Wherever you put him, he's excited. He wants to work at it and he continues to grow."

Ross enjoyed watching him produce Thursday in the leadoff spot.

"I think he's he's a guy that makes solid contact. He comes out and gave us a spark last night from jump street, getting him in the leadoff spot and he swings the first pitch to go down the line and we score."

Hoerner has a smile on his face playing the game he loves.

"He's is a very likable guy. Comes here and works hard and with a smile on his face every day."

He is batting .243 with six RBIs this season.
