Cubs News: Epstein updates Bryant's shoulder rehab

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs offense was not the same without a healthy Kris Bryant. It was obvious to most everyone that he was not right for much of the season.

Bryant missed a whopping 61 games this past season, and his absence was devastating from an offensive standpoint. A healthy Bryant makes the Cubs lineup a very formidable group. Regardless if the Cubs don't make a huge free agent signing with a Bryce Harper type, getting a 100 percent Bryant back is necessary for this team to make a run next season.

Cubs President of Operations Theo Epstein held his yearly press conference recently and talked about Bryant's rehab process on his shoulder.

"I do not believe he'll need surgery," he said. "I haven't got the latest medical update, but we're operating on the latest information that he will not and that with the offseason of rest and getting a full winter's worth of work in, he's going to be 100 percent and better than ever."

Epstein knows that Bryant will dedicate himself this offseason to have a bounce-back season in 2019.

"I personally believe after sitting down with Kris and seeing the way he's handled this year that he never really got back fully to what he can be but that this is someone who will put the work in necessary physically, fundamentally, mentally, all phases to have a monster year next year with what he learned this year."

For the season, Bryant hit .272 with 13 homers and 52 RBIs.
