Javy Baez on contract talks with Cubs

by - Senior Editor -

One of the most vital things that the Chicago Cubs front office would like to accomplish is to lock Cubs standout Javy Baez to a long-term extension with the ballclub.

So far, it hasn't been done, but it's certainly possible as both parties are certainly open to the idea.

Baez spoke to reporters Thursday and said that he is in no rush and is going to try to win this season.

"Everybody wants to get paid, but we got to wait for the right time," he said via The Athletic. "On each side, we got to see, and we got to know what's right for each other. I'm not in a rush. We're trying to win this season that is going to be so weird."

Baez believes that the Cubs understand what he brings to the table.

"I’ve got one year [more] I’m going to be in arbitration. We’ll see. They know me. I’m pretty sure every team knows me and knows what I can do. I’m not in a rush. We’ll just see what happens this season and how it goes for me and with this 60 games and be ready for next season."

In 2019, 'El Mago' hit .281 with 29 homers and 85 RBIs.
