Cubs News: Javy Baez scratched from Thursday's game

El Mago is a no-go tonight.

Cubs standout shortstop Javier Baez was a late scratch from Thursday's lineup against the Brewers with left thumb soreness.

Baez hurt his thumb after sliding into second base over the weekend and the Cubs were hopeful that he would be ready to go after getting two days off plus the off-day on Wednesday. However, it appears that he still has a ways to go before that thumb is ready to rock and roll.

Baez is hitting .281 with 29 home runs, 85 RBI, and has an on-base percentage of .316.

Addison Russell will now fill in at shortstop and bat seventh. Willson Contreras will now hit in the fifth spot that Baez had previously occupied.
