LOOK: Cubs don basketball jerseys for their themed road trip |
The Chicago Cubs frequently select themes for their road-trip attire in order to liven up the grueling reality of having to frequent airplanes and hotel rooms for an extended period of time. For the Cubs' upcoming 6-game road trip, the theme was basketball, so all of the players suited up in basketball jerseys before boarding the plane to fly to Texas for a series with the Houston Astros.
Some of the notable outfits included South Florida natives Albert Almora Jr. and Anthony Rizzo staying true to their roots by donning Miami Heat uniforms, Javier Baez going as "Dr. J" as a play on his first initial by sporting a Julius Erving jersey and Cole Hamels paying homage to Will Ferrell by dressing up in a Flint Tropics getup from the comedic movie Semi-Pro. Fitting because of the impending NBA Finals, the basketball regalia likely helped to lighten the mood for the Cubs as they set out on their flight to Houston following a series loss to the last-place Cincinnati Reds.
