MLB announces latest COVID-19 test results

Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association jointly announced today the latest COVID-19 testing results under MLB’s COVID-19 Health Monitoring & Testing Plan, through the end of Thursday, July 16th:

MONITORING TESTING

Covered Individuals are now in Monitoring Testing, which tests Players and other Tier 1 individuals every other day and Tier 2 individuals multiple times per week. To date, the results of Monitoring Testing are as follows:

The number of monitoring samples collected and tested in the past week was 10,548.

6 of these 10,548 samples, which is 0.05%, have been new positives.

The past week included a five-day period in which no new positives were reported.

5 of the 6 positives were players and 1 was a staff member.

The total number of monitoring samples collected and tested has been 17,949.

23 of these 17,949 samples, which is 0.1%, have been new positives.

18 of the 23 positives have been players and 5 have been staff members.

13 different Clubs have had a Covered Individual test positive during Monitoring Testing.

ALL TESTING TO DATE

Combining the totals of previously completed Intake Screening and ongoing Monitoring Testing, the results are as follows:

The total number of new positive tests is 93, which is 0.4% of the 21,701 samples since the beginning of Intake Screening on June 27th.

Among the 93 positives, 80 have been players and 13 have been staff members. [Note that there were 4 additional Intake Screening positives reported after July 9th as a result of additional players being added to Club Player Pools.]

28 different Clubs have had a Covered Individual test positive in Intake Screening or during Monitoring Testing.
