MLB team showing interest in David Ross as manager

by - Senior Editor -

The busy offseason isn't just about free agent signings, it's also about the managerial hirings and firings that will take place in the next few months.

Minnesota Twins manager Paul Monitor was fired on Tuesday and now the Twins are interested in potentially interviewing hitting coach James Rowson, MLB Network's Mark DeRosa, and ESPN commentator David Ross.

"DeRosa, 43, played in the major leagues for 16 seasons and now is an analyst with the MLB Network," the Star Tribune said. "Ross, 41, played 15 seasons and now is with ESPN. Both are not very far removed from their playing days — which could help them relate to the current ballplayer — and have proven their communication skills while working on television. The Twins observed with interest as Aaron Boone left the broadcast booth to lead the Yankees to a 100-victory season."

Ross has worked for ESPN the last two seasons while also being involved with the Cubs as a special assistant. Of course, all Cubs fans know him as "Granpa Rossy" who was a major factor in the Cubs winning the World Series in 2016 after a drought of 108 years.

Other teams that will be looking for new managers include the Reds, Rangers, Orioles, Blue Jays, and Angels.
