PITTSBURGH — With heavy rainfall coming down at PNC Park, the game between the Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates entered a weather delay at approximately 8:05 p.m. local time on Tuesday. After the grounds crew quickly raked the infield dirt, the tarp was brought out to cover the diamond.
A squall blew over the park following the conclusion of the third inning, and the rain delay was instituted prior to the start of the fourth frame. Fans dashed for cover as raindrops began to fall in droves. The Cubs and Pirates later announced that the game was expected to resume at approximately 10:15 p.m. local time, and it did, with the break in the action lasting just over two hours.
