PITTSBURGH — Swinging at the first pitch of his eighth-inning at-bat, Chicago Cubs first baseman
Anthony Rizzo recorded his first home run of the season with a solo shot that flew out in a hurry. The dinger at PNC Park provided the Cubs with an insurance run against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday.
Reliever Sam Howard got tagged on a 93.3-mph four-seam fastball, with Rizzo smoking the pitch out to right-center. The lined shot, which placed the Cubs up 4-2, left the yard sporting an exit velocity of 109.8 mph. It served as the Cubs' third homer of the ballgame.
