CHICAGO — At the conclusion of the Chicago Cubs' 2019 season, Cubs organist Gary Pressy is stepping away from the organ after 33 consecutive seasons and nearly 2,700 consecutive Cubs games of playing tunes at Wrigley Field. Therefore, the Cubs' home finale against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday marked what could potentially end up being Pressy's final game.
As a result, Pressy was honored prior to the game by throwing out the first pitch and receiving a commemorative jersey and plaque. However, Pressy's greatest honor, which came as a great delight for the fans in attendance at the Friendly Confines, was when he had the opportunity to serve as the "guest conductor" and sing out the seventh-inning stretch. Pressy is accustomed to playing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" on the organ, but, this time, he belted out the tune, as well, making for a wonderful moment.
