WATCH: Heyward smacks leadoff home run that lands in Wrigley Field basket

by - Senior Writer -

Chicago Cubs right fielder Jason Heyward smacked a leadoff home run to put the Cubs up 6-4 on the Cincinnati Reds in the bottom of the fifth on Saturday. With the wind blowing out at Wrigley Field, Heyward received a little help from Mother Nature, as the dinger coasted just over the partition in left-center and landed in the metal basket at the top of the wall.

Heyward's seventh homer of the season, the solo tater traveled 356 feet before descending into the basket. The towering blast featured a launch angle of 38 degrees and an exit velocity of 100 miles per hour. Reds starter Tyler Mahle was victimized on the round-tripper, as he was taken deep on a 90-mile-per-hour fastball. Heyward appeared to acknowledge the wind's role in the home run when he playfully licked the tip of his index finger and stuck in up in the air as if to determine the wind conditions.
