WATCH: Highlights from Cubs' 12-5 thrashing of Reds

by - Senior Writer -

CINCINNATI — Opening a 4-game series at Great American Ball Park with a bang, the Chicago Cubs (63-52) pounded out 19 hits against the Cincinnati Reds (54-59) and came away with a commanding 12-5 victory on Thursday. Left fielder Nicholas Castellanos led the way for the Cubs by hitting a pair of home runs and going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Although Cubs starter Cole Hamels was roughed up on the mound in a short-lived start, Cubs long reliever Tyler Chatwood calmed the storm when he entered in the fourth frame with the Cubs nursing a 6-5 lead and went on to pitch three scoreless innings. Also of note, recently signed catcher Jonathan Lucroy went 3-for-5 and drove home two runs in his Cubs debut.
