WATCH: Highlights from Cubs' 16-6 dismantling of Pirates

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — The Chicago Cubs (81-68) experienced incredible highs throughout their 16-6 destruction of the Pittsburgh Pirates (65-85) on Sunday, but they also experienced a terrible low when star first baseman Anthony Rizzo suffered what appeared to be a fairly severe ankle sprain. Rizzo was helped off the field after rolling his ankle while charging a bunted ball in the third inning and was subsequently removed from the game.

The Cubs went on to crush the Pirates, though, as they clubbed five home runs on the afternoon and outscored the Pirates 13-1 after the Buccos produced a 5-run third inning. As a result of the victory at Wrigley Field, Chicago earned a 3-game sweep of Pittsburgh, in which the Cubs tallied a double-digit run total in each of the three contests. In the series finale, third baseman Kris Bryant led the charge for the Cubs by going 3-for-5 and powering out two dingers.
