ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Battling at Busch Stadium for the first time this season, the Chicago Cubs (31-24) and the St. Louis Cardinals (28-28) went to extra innings in the series opener of a 3-game set on Friday. The Cardinals came out on top by a final score of 2-1, with the winning run coming on a walk-off RBI single hit by Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter in the bottom of the 10th inning.

The 10-inning affair featured solid outings by starting pitchers Yu Darvish of Chicago and Miles Mikolas of St. Louis and also included heavy booing of Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant in each of his five plate appearances. After making critical remarks concerning the city of St. Louis in the offseason, Bryant heard it from the Cardinals faithful on the night and went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts at the dish.
