CHICAGO — The Chicago Cubs (61-51) engaged in an intense battle with the Oakland Athletics (64-49) at Wrigley Field on Monday night. In what served as the first meeting of the season between the interleague opponents, a combined seven home runs were tallied, thus making for an exciting nail-biter that ended with a high drive off the bat of A's shortstop Marcus Semien being caught on the warning track..

Five years to the day after he recorded his first career home run, Cubs shortstop Javier Baez skied a pair of dingers against the A's. The most impressive long ball of the night, though, was a mammoth 474-footer hit by Cubs outfielder Ian Happ in a pinch-hitting situation. Semien powered out two home runs for the A's, but what nearly served as his third jack was gloved by Happ in deep left field to wrap up the Cubs' 6-5 victory.
