CHICAGO — Lasting approximately five hours, the National League Wild Card Game between the Chicago Cubs and the Colorado Rockies marked the longest contest to ever take place at Wrigley Field, as well as the longest win-or-go-home game in MLB postseason history. Falling 2-1 in 13 innings to the Rockies, the Cubs had their World Series hopes shattered on their home field to bring a promising season in Wrigleyville to a premature close.
Star Cubs infielder Javier Baez provided the North Siders with their only run of the night when he plated pinch runner Terrance Gore via an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth. However, Chicago went on to lose in the 13th as a result of a two-out RBI single off the bat of Rockies catcher Tony Wolters against Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks, who pitched in relief during extra innings.
