WATCH: Highlights of Cubs' win in Nico Hoerner's epic MLB debut |
SAN DIEGO — The injury issues plaguing the infield of the Chicago Cubs (77-66) resulted in one of the greatest big-league debuts in Cubs history taking place on Monday. After getting called up earlier in the day, Cubs shortstop Nico Hoerner appeared in a game at the major-league level for the first time, and the promising prospect did not disappoint.
Going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four runs batted in, Hoerner, who also pulled off several superb defensive plays, showed out in the Cubs' 10-2 victory versus the San Diego Padres (66-77). In addition, Cubs outfielders Nicholas Castellanos and Kyle Schwarber both went yard at Petco Park, with the North Siders racking up 15 hits in their lopsided win.
