WATCH: Highlights of Cubs' win on South Side over rival White Sox |
CHICAGO — In the penultimate installment of the 2019 Crosstown Classic on Saturday, the Chicago Cubs (47-42) registered five runs in the fifth inning and went on to defat the Chicago White Sox (41-44) by a final score of 6-3. Taking care of business at Guaranteed Rate Field on the South Side, the Cubs showed poise at the plate, drawing nine total walks.
Shortstop Javier Baez led the way for the Cubs with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI. Left fielder Kyle Schwarber also came up clutch for the North Siders with a 2-run double as part of the 5-run fifth. Schwarber seemed to think that the ball was certain to go foul as soon as it left the bat. Instead, the bloop hit, which put the Cubs up 3-1, fell in for a double near the left-field line, and it gave the Cubs a lead that they did not relinquish.
