WATCH: Highlights of winner-take-all National League Central tiebreaker

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — A combination of a lackluster offensive showing and a woeful pitching performance by reliever Justin Wilson contributed to the Chicago Cubs (95-68) losing 3-1 in their National League Central tiebreaker against the Milwaukee Brewers (96-67) on Monday. The Cubs garnered a meager three hits on the afternoon, one of which was a solo dinger by first baseman Anthony Rizzo that provided the Cubs with their only run.

The Brewers did the Cubs in with a two-run eighth inning, in which Wilson was charged with two runs after giving up back-to-back hits to start the frame. Wilson was pulled following the two hits, but the Brewers went on to plate both base runners on RBI singles from Lorenzo Cain and Ryan Braun, respectively, and take the lead for good.
