WATCH: Zobrist lays out for spectacular diving catch to rob Yadier Molina

by - Senior Writer -

After showing off his arm with a nice throw from left to third to gun down Matt Carpenter of the St. Louis Cardinals earlier in Sunday's contest, Chicago Cubs veteran Ben Zobrist continued to put on a defensive clinic at Wrigley Field in the top of the fourth. Playing in left field on the night, Zobrist robbed Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina of a surefire RBI extra-base hit in the fourth frame.

With a runner on first and one out, Molina hit a liner toward the left-field line that Zobrist was quick to react to. Running and diving toward the well-hit ball, Zobrist was able to secure the catch and prevent the Cardinals' Jose Martinez from coming around to score. In fact, Martinez was forced to retreat back to first base and did not advance whatsoever on the play. The superb catch prevented Molina from tallying an RBI and kept the Cubs' 1-0 lead intact.
