CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Brailyn Marquez from the South Bend Alternate Site. Infielder Patrick Wisdom has been designated for assignment.

Marquez, who joins the first major league roster of his pro career, will wear uniform number 61 and be available for the Cubs this afternoon when they conclude their three-game series at the Chicago White Sox.

Marquez, 21, was ranked as the organization’s top prospect by Baseball America entering the 2020 campaign. He combined to go 9-5 with a 3.13 ERA (36 ER/103.2 IP) last year in 22 starts between Single-A South Bend and Single-A Myrtle Beach, earning Midwest League All Star honors along the way. He began the season with South Bend, going 5-4 with a 3.61 ERA in 17 starts to earn the promotion to Myrtle Beach, where he went 4-1 with a 1.71 ERA in five starts. Marquez joins the Cubs having never pitched above the Single-A level.

The 6-foot-4 southpaw originally signed with the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent on August 23, 2015 and is a native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. In four minor league campaigns, Marquez has gone 16-12 with a 3.19 ERA (91 ER/257.0 IP) in 57 professional appearances, 55 as a starter.
