Dodgers rout Cubs in split squad game

With less than a well-known roster, Ian Happ and Kyle Schwarber would be the big names traveling to Glendale to face the Dodgers.

Although the Cubs would start the game by loading the bases (single, double, walk), they would fail to push anything across in the first, Cubs right-hander, Christian Bergman would take the mound to start, allowing the Dodgers to score three in the opening frame.

After a quiet second inning for both teams, Trent Giambrone would open up the Cubs’ half of the third with a solo home run to left. The Dodgers would answer with a run of their own, however, making the score 4-3 in favor of the Dodgers by the end of the third.

The Cubs would tally another run in the top of the fifth, but the Dodgers would again answer in their half, scoring another pair of runs. Dodgers 6; Cubs 2.

After a scoreless fifth for the Cubs, LA would tack on an insurance run, making the score now 7-2. The Cubs would remain scoreless through the eighth, as Los Angeles pounded away, adding another four runs, bringing the final score to 11-2 in favor of the Dodgers.
