The Cubs struggled to get runs today as they have bigger fish to fry, but the game was a disappointment as the Reds took the win 7-4.

The Chicago Cubs played game 2 of 3 against the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday afternoon as Jon Lester tried to earn his first 20 win season but it was not meant to be.

The Reds struck in the first inning as Joey Votto hit a grounder to score his teammate Jose Peraza. They added onto their lead in the 2nd as Eugenio Suarez hit a two-run homer to give the Reds the lead of 3-0. Suarez hit a sacrifice fly in the 3rd to score another run for the Reds, making it 4-0.

Jason Heyward drove in two runs in the 4th earning himself a double and putting the score at 4-2. Javier Baez then singled to left to score Heyward making the score 4-3 going into the bottom of the 4th. Votto doubled to right in the fifth to score another run for the Reds, making it 5-3.

The Reds added onto their lead as Votto again doubled to right to add another run putting the score at 6-3. The Reds struck again that inning to put the score at 7-3. Ben Zobrist hit a homer in the 8th to give the Cubs another run, putting the score at 7-4.

The Reds were able to hold onto the lead the rest of the game and took the win, 7-4.

The Cubs will play their last game of the regular season tomorrow in game 3 against the Reds as Kyle Hendricks looks to finish the regular season out strong on the pitcher’s mound against Robert Stephenson.
