Cubs News: Vegas odds has Kris Bryant in Top 2 for MVP

Who's ready for baseball?

The beginning of the season comes with projections about the players that will dominate the upcoming season.

Kris Bryant is a 26-year old star that has already won NL's Rookie of the Year in 2015 and MVP award in 2016. In 2017, Bryant hit .295 with 29 homers, 111 runs (5th in NL), 95 walks (3rd in NL), 73 RBIs, an on-base percentage of .409, and OPS of .946 (7th in NL). He changed up his approach to the plate and cut down on his strikeout rate (19.2%) while adding a career-best 76.7% contact rate.

He should have a huge year in 2018 as he matures even more as a bonafide star with the Cubs.

So what should Cubs fans expect out of Bryant in the future?

Vegas oddsmaker Bovada released their odds on different 2018 baseball awards including the National League MVP award and had Bryant No. 2 overall (4/1 odds) behind only his buddy Bryce Harper (4/1 odd).

Other Cubs players on the MVP list include Anthony Rizzo (18/1 odds) and Kyle Schwarber (100/1).

Schwarber's odds might be a value play because of his ability to knock 40 dingers out of the ballpark per season. Can you imagine how good his stats will be if he has a full healthy season where he plays up to his potential? It would be huge statistically and great for his ballclub as it would take pressure off of Bryant and Rizzo.

Vegas odds on the home run leaders in the major leagues included Bryant (30/1), Rizzo at (50/1), and Schwarber (50/1).

The National League Cy Young Award odds were also released and had Yu Darvish (20/1), Jon Lester (30/1 odds), Jose Quintana (35/1 odds), and Kyle Hendricks (60/1 odds).

That's is pretty amazing that a list of around 20 pitchers that the Cubs have four of their starters included. This one stat alone should show doubters that the Cubs could have a real chance for a special year in 2018.
