Astros reportedly interested in Willson Contreras

by - Senior Editor -

The offseason could start getting very interesting shortly for the Chicago Cubs.

The Athletic is reporting that the Houston Astros are interested in the services of All-Star catcher Willson Contreras.

“The Astros went into this offseason with an interest in Willson Contreras, according to a source familiar with the team’s thinking, and they have a need for a frontline catcher.”

It would have to be a massive haul for the Cubs, but obviously, Theo Epstein will listen to all offers on all players, including Contreras, to try to make their ballclub better in the long term.

Contreras hit .272 with 24 homers and 64 RBIs last season.

For his three-year major league career, he has 67 homers and 227 RBIs.

Cubs President of Operations Theo Epstein has been honest that change is coming for 2020.

"And when things evolved to a place we're not as proud of, there's accountability for all of us," Epstein said during his end of season press conference. "That means a lot of change and difficult decisions and trying to move forward and create something new. Change is not always easy, but it's necessary."
